Cheap(ish) and cheerful. Food is always the same, but service varies.
Sunday 31 December 2011 Decided to have dinner at Ocean Basket Gordon's Bay New Years Eve. The South Easter was good to the patrons, awesome setting and so tranquil watching the sunset on the last day of 2011 with fisherman and boats coming and going. Our only complaint with Ocean Basket Gordon's Bay is WHY so many waiters rushing round and actually not providing a good service, granted the staff are friendly, but totally beyond me why are there so many !!! One cannot relax with staff walking up and down with cleaning cloth's, standing staring at you while trying to enjoy your meal and relax. We ordered Haloumi as a starter, only to be asked when it arrived, can I bring the main ??? Hello, why order a starter ??? Of course we said no, not yet. We had no sooner finished our "starter" when the waiter arrived with the main, the prawns were ice cold, I mentioned this to the waiter when he came rushing past, his comment was "Oh, its cold". Obviously, both the starter and main meal had been prepared at the same time. We asked for an ice bucket for our wine, which we never ever got.. It is really disappointing, as Ocean Basket Gordon's Bay is situated in such a fantastic location, but spoilt by too many staff in a very very noisy restaurant all talking and shouting at each other. Yes, great to employ so many people but hey, a few efficient, well trained staff would be far nicer and make you want to keep going back. When we arrived, I presume, it was the owner/manager standing at the door, never greeted or looked up, as she was too busy texting on her mobile. At no time did we see any of the Managers take a walk outside to see what was going on or enquire whether the patrons were happy, a sheer lack of interest on managements part. Sadly I don't think we will go back to Ocean Basket GB any time soon, this wont worry the owner, as the restaurant is always full, for their sake I hope it remains that way !! We've tried several times and have almost become regulars, but that's it, back to Ocean Basket Somerset Mall or the V & A Cape Town!! Hazel Somerset West

Mid winters early evening.Turned up having made no reservation and shown to a table promptly. Gary, our waiter, was kind and efficient with the service. Usual basket of wholemeal bread,butter, and sauces brought out with plenty of handwipes for later...
Tom chose the Mountain of Prawns (at least 45 they say) for R145 served in a basket with chips, and our choice was the Platter for Two at R169. This is always a good selection of mussels, calamari heads, line fish, and prawns with a choice of chips or rice served on the platter. A village salad arrived too, topped with a large slab of feta cheese.This was R29. Meal arrived quickly, a good job as large parties of diners were piling in!
Finished off with tea, coffee and Italian kisses ice cream. A good meal, accompanied by a couple of drinks, bill came to R519 including well earned tip for Gary!
Place was fairly quiet, though filling up. Dinner arrived. Looked and tasted good. Calamari top up ordered for R29, this arrived quickly.
The manager gave all the tables with four or more people a voucher for R50 to be used by October. Seems like a good idea, and we may use it. Though he needs to know how to ask an open question. Breezed past each table asking 'diiner ok folks? That's great!'. Clearly comment wasn't invited.
Two desserts were ordered - Italian Kisses and Choc Mousse. Bill came to R432 plus tip.
Long wait for the waiter with the credit card machine. Gave up and paid at the desk.

Hi Sir [Ocean Basket, Gordon’s Bay]
This is just a reminder that I am still awaiting a response from you regarding the incident in your Restaurant on Saturday, 20 June 2009 evening between 08:00 to 09:16 pm.
You will recall that I contacted you over the weekend and explained the situation where I was overcharged due to an error from the side of your waiter. I ordered food for myself and two other adults [brother & sister –in-law] for about R 200, 00 and was charged R 298,00.
It would be appreciated I your feedback could be received soon to avoid me making a issue about it.
