Cafe del Mar
William Anderson enjoying a Fanta orange at Cafe del Mar, Harbour Island, Gordons Bay Perfect situation on the Boadwalk at Harbour Island. Does good coffees, warm scones and light bites. Expect slow service (even when the place is quiet). Update on 01/04/08 no longer do even scones/pastries. Only open 9am to 5pm Mon to Fri. Very sad, but expect this smart place to go belly up in six months. What a pity, such an excellent location.
Sure enough, it's June 2008 and the place is boarded up on the broadwalk! What will be next?
December 2010. Café del Mar re-opened about 3 months ago with new owners as far as I’m aware and I’ve been there a few times and had a very good time. The staff are friendly and efficient and the décor worthy of the beautiful location. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon sun downer and the R25 a cocktail special on Wednesdays makes it the place to be in Gordons Bay. With the competitive drink prices and a great vibe, I know I’ll be going round there again soon.

Update 20 Feb 2011. Cafe del Mar is now a cocktail bar. So it's really drinks and light snacks only (no muffins, scones etc). Ordered two soft drinks and two coffees at 11am. We were told by the waiter that he could do a receipt for the soft drinks, but not the coffee. Sounded strange. Anyhow, bill came to R56, but only the soft drinks were on the chit. Hope we weren't done!
Such a nice spot.
